A few pro tips & fun facts we couldn’t keep to ourselves. Consider this your insider scoop for making the most of your stay.
Six Couples, Zero Fuss Move-in weekend, move-out weekend, Parents Weekend—it’s all easier with friends. Paxton House is just steps from W&L and a few blocks from VMI, making it the perfect place to go in on together. The house sleeps six couples comfortably, and at $1,200 a night, that’s only $200 a night per couple. (That’s definitely a cut above a Hampton Inn continental breakfast.)
Extend Your Stay We try to build in a little breathing room before and after each booking—think of it as your cushion of luxury. If you're hoping to add a night or two on either end of your stay, chances are the house is available...It’s one of the quiet perks of booking directly.
Snag It While You Can We book years in advance to help guests lock in peace of mind and their favorite Lexington weekends. Alumni events, Parents Weekends, graduation—these dates go fast. A little planning now, a lot of smug satisfaction later. The best weekends always go to the early birds.
Missed the Big Weekend? Make Your Own. Didn’t snag Paxton for Young Alumni, Parents Weekend, or that extra-special reunion? Don’t let the early birds have all the fun. Choose your own weekend, gather your college crew, and relive the good old days without the crowds. Bring the yearbooks, dig out the old inside jokes, and make new memories in the same storied town where it all began. Lexington’s just as charming (maybe even better) when it’s a little quieter—and Paxton’s porch is always ready for reminiscing.
Your Annual Friend Retreat Starts Here. Life gets busy—but a standing weekend with your people at Paxton House? That’s the kind of tradition that sticks. Several friend groups already use Paxton as their yearly reunion spot, making it the perfect home base to reconnect, recharge, and never lose touch with the ones who matter most. Pick your weekend, rally the crew, and let Paxton do the rest—games, comfort, and charm included.
Make Paxton a Tradition Choose connection over chaos. Paxton’s the perfect central spot to unplug, slow down, and reconnect—with each other, with the outdoors, and with the rich history of this charming corner of America. Year after year, it’s the kind of tradition that only gets better.
Make Reading the Reason Turn your getaway into a readaway—Paxton is practically a literary retreat. Every room has books to browse, there's a full shelf of children’s favorites, and two dreamy libraries just steps away. Cozy up with a classic, start a book club tradition, or inspire your crew to swap screens for stories—Paxton makes it easy (and photogenic).
Market Mornings Just steps from Paxton House, the Lexington Farmers Market offers local produce every Wednesday morning on N Jefferson Street. Alongside vibrant fruits and vegetables, you’ll find homemade baked goods, fresh flowers, and handcrafted items from local vendors. It’s a wonderful way to connect with the community, sample seasonal flavors, and enjoy a lively, friendly atmosphere. Whether you’re stocking up for a picnic just want to experience the heart of Lexington’s local food scene the market is a must-visit.
Fairway Finds Lexington Country Club is public and just a short drive from Paxton. You’ll find two sets of golf clubs waiting for you in the left door of the carriage house. Enjoy rolling hills, beautiful views of the Blue Ridge, and challenging tee shots. Note: the club is closed Mondays and Tuesdays. For another great option, Ironwood Golf Course in Stanton, VA is about a 35-minute highway drive from Paxton, offering a scenic and enjoyable golfing experience.
Front Porch Friends The front porch is a return to the good old days of neighborly chats and impromptu afternoon tea. As you sip your coffee or toss a game of cornhole on the front lawn, don’t be surprised if passersby heading to the post office strike up a conversation or wave hello. The friendly folks who help keep Paxton in tip-top shape are often nearby too—so flash a smile and soak in the small-town charm. It makes time slow down - where the simplest moments turn into lasting memories.
